Proverbs in the New Testament: Proverbs 24:12

Proverbs 24:12 / Matthew 16:27 / Romans 2:6

Old Testament Context

• God understands our motives — judges the heart.
• God knows our actions — protects.
• God will administer justice.
• Verse 12 is the reason to act in the scenes of evil and unjust oppression. When we see it, we should not be ignorant of it. God knows.

New Testament Context

• Matthew 16:27
  • Jesus uses the principle of God rewarding our actions in the context of the sacrifice it will take to follow Him.
• Romans 2:6
  • Paul is talking about those who judge others for sins they also commit. By doing so, they are storing up judgment.
  • This judgment will be revealed on judgment day.
  • Everyone will be rewarded by what they do:
    • Glory, honor — righteous.
    • Selfish, reject — evil.
