Spiritual Gifts (part 1)

For the next three weeks, we are going to explore some spiritual gifts mentioned in Scripture. Although these are not comprehensive, we are going to explore the spiritual gifts explored in Scripture and discover their roots, uses, and intentions.

Today we are going to look at the gifts of prophecy, serving, teaching, and the gift of wisdom.

  • Prophecy
    • Heb. massa’ – load, burden, utterance
    • Greek – prophetcia- divine discourse, Prediction, revealing
  • Prophecy is given by Spirit – 1 Cor 12:10
  • Prophecy is a gift to be desired – 1 Cor 13: 2
  • Prophecy is a sign for believers- 1 Cor 14:22
  • Prophecy can give gifts – 1 Tim 4:14
  • Prophecy comes from God through Spirit – 2 Pet 1 : 21
  • The book of Revelation is a prophecy for us – Rev 22: 7
  • Serving
    • Diakonia- One who serves
  • When we serve, it is Jesus we are serving . Eph 6 :7, Col 3:24 => Matt 25 
  • Serve in the Spirit – Rom 7:6
  • Jesus came to serve – Matt 20:28
  • All gifts are a form of service – 1 Pet 4:10
  • Teaching
    • didasko – instruct, explain, teach
  • Teaching should align with Jesus teaching – 1 Tim 6:3
  • Teach with honor and sound words – Titus 2:7
  • Teach with Scripture – 2 Tim 3:16
  • Disciples taught Jesus is the Messiah – Acts 4: 2, 5:42
    • Jesus lived, died, and resurrected
    • Salvation is in Jesus’ name alone
    • God is judge
    • Believe and repent for forgiveness through Jesus
  • Wisdom
    • Greek: Sophia – intelligence, knowledge word of wisdom
    • logos – speech, word , discourse
  • Jesus had wisdom – Luke 2:40
  • Jesus gives this wisdom – Luke 21:15
  • Jesus is wisdom from God- 1 Cor 1:30
  • Wisdom is knowing Jesus teachings
  • Wisdom has characteristics – James 3:17
