Chapter 5
5:1-18 This is a description of the conditions after the fall of Jerusalem and possibly even in exile. The “slaves” described in verse 8 is an ironic way to describe the Babylonian rulers.
The joy has been taken from them as their beloved city has fallen because of their rebellion against God.
5:19-22 The people want to return and come back and restore the covenant they broke. They hope they have not gone too far as for God to return to them. As we know from the prophets, this was not true and God did save a remnant.
This concludes Lamentations.
