Lamentations Chapter 3

3:1-18

The author now introduces himself as “I” the man who has seen affliction. The author has suffered right along with Jerusalem from God’s wrath. He now expresses his own suffering in poetry.

3:19-36

Though the author has suffered, he is reminded of God’s love and mercy. He knows that men will not be punished by God forever as he states in v.31 but that God will bring compassion and love once again and the author hopes for that day.

3:37-47

The author calls on everyone to return to the Lord and confess their sins and rebellious way and return.

3:48-66

The author now returns to singular person either as himself or Jerusalem. This cry is for vengeance on the enemies of Jerusalem who attacked them.
