The wonderful qualities and attributes of Jesus Christ need to be studied. Many people say that we need to be like Christ, and they would be correct as 1 Peter 2:21 claims that we need to follow in his footsteps. But many people do not know how to be like Christ because they have never studied his example. So that is what we are going to be studying in this series, the qualities of Christ. To be like Christ, we have to act like Christ, and the only way to follow his example is by studying the example he left us.

One of the qualities of Jesus is his everlasting grace on people. Now before we get into his grace, and what it means to us, we must first understand what grace is. Grace, in simple terms, is a free gift from God. Almost like a favor. Grace is a gift from God, and it would not be possible without Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.

Now that we have a good foundation for what grace is, we can now study it further. Grace is a gift from God, and we know that, because of what Paul says in Ephesians 2:8-9. He says “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” What Paul is saying is that the sacrifice of Christ was a gift to us, to save us from the result of sin, which is spiritual death. But the gift was only made possible by grace. Therefore, we have been saved by grace, which is exactly what this scripture says. Romans 3:23-24 also says that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,”. Again we see that grace is a gift from our Father.

Jesus’ most well-known act of grace was the crucifixion. He gave himself up for us while we were still sinners just as Romans 5:8 says, “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” That is the passionate love he had for us. He had so much love for us that he died for us, knowing that not everyone would follow and repent, but he did it anyway. He had so much love and grace for us, that he died for the remission of our sins. That is the greatest act of love anyone can ever show, John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

But the overflowing abundance of grace has not stopped flowing even today, he still shows us grace today. James 4:6 says, “But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”” James emphasizes the fact that he did not stop giving grace at the cross. He continuously gives it to those who are humble even today. That is why the grace of God is an everlasting gift.

In conclusion, as we wrap up the first part of this series, grace is important. The sacrifice would not have happened if it wasn’t for the grace of Christ and the compassion and love he had for us. Grace is just another attribute of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and one that we need to apply to our lives as well.
