Mary’s Song (Luke 1:46-55)

  • Context: In response to John the Baptist leaping in Elizabeth’s womb. Mary is called blessed because she believes.
  • Poetic Description of Israel’s Story:
    • Performed deeds ⇒ scattered the proud
    • Brought down ⇒ lifted up
    • Filled ⇒ sent away empty
    • Helped Israel
  • The Message: God has humbled the proud and exalted the humble—not just through her, but that’s what Jesus is going to do.
  • Significance: The promise to Abraham is being fulfilled.
