2 Chronicles 36
2 Chronicles 36 marks the tragic end of the kingdom of Judah. After a line of unstable kings—Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah—the nation faces God’s final judgment for persistent rebellion. Despite repeated prophetic warnings, the people and their leaders mock God and resist reform. The Babylonian army invades, destroys Jerusalem and the temple, and exiles the people.
But the chapter ends not in total despair—Cyrus, king of Persia, issues a decree allowing the Jews to return and rebuild the temple. This brief note of restoration shows that although judgment came, God’s promise and plan would continue.

Proverbs 9
Main Theme
The main theme for this chapter and all of the proverbs is wisdom. Wisdom in knowing what is true and what is false. Learning the path that leads to life and recognizing the paths of fools. The start of wisdom is fearing the Lord as Solomon repeats many times. Wisdom comes to those who fear God and acknowledge His ways and are open to his instruction. In chapter 9, Solomon talks about Lady wisdom and Lady folly. These are metaphors for wisdom and foolishness. It is interesting to note that both wisdom and foolishness have the same message to the same audience. They both call out to those who lack judgment (9:4, 9:16). Their message is also the same. “Let all who are simple come in here” (Proverbs 9:4, 9:16). Wisdom calls the person to leave their foolish ways and fear the Lord. Folly, however, wants them to continue in their path. Folly makes life seem sweet and pleasant even though it is not. Folly is an illusion of good but underneath it leads to death. The way we gain judgment to determine wisdom from folly is through fear of the Lord and the proverbs Solomon now gives.
Application
Proverbs 9 offers two paths. Both present a reward, both present the same message. One comes from a message of hope, one is full of deception. Recognizing the path of foolishness is impossible without having wisdom to see another way. The only way to receive wisdom is to first fear the Lord so that you will be able to see and recognize wisdom. In life there are all kinds of paths to take and many voices telling us which one is the right path. We can’t always listen to the voice as Solomon tells us both paths often sound the same. We must choose the path that leads to life and comes from the wisdom of God and not of man. The wise path may not be the easiest choice but in the end we will be rewarded.
