Hell
- Jesus mentions eternal punishment as being the place where unbelievers go
- 1 Thess 1:9- Paul describes it as everlasting destruction
- This is further explained by shout out from God’s presence
- The punishment is separation from the God of life and goodness- ruin will result
- This will happen when he (Jesus) comes a second time
Day of the Lord
- “day of the Lord”- not just an end times phrase but means a day when God’s judgment is carried out. – Fall of Jerusalem
- Mat 24- “abomination that causes desolation in holy place”
- “man of lawlessness in God’s temple” 2 Thessalonians 2:4
- Mat 24- Jesus is proclaiming the temple will be destroyed
- 2 Thess 2- Jesus comes again only after two events
- Rebellion
- man of lawlessness is revealed
- Mat 24:36 – No one knows when so keep watch
- 2 Thess 2- He hasn’t come back yet so stay on guard
Work
- Mat 25:14-30- Parable of Talents
- Need to be faithful in our work and know God’s character as giving and generous.
- 2 thess 3:11
- When we don’t work- we start to mingle in people’s lives. We work to eat our own bread.
