Names of God (El Elyon)

This name mostly occurs in the Psalms and for good reason. This is another name that is descriptive since it starts with “El”- a word for God. “Elyon” is a word meaning high, or exalted. Therefore, this means that God is high above everything, including other powers. This is often translated ‘Most High’. He is the God above all other gods. What a name to describe Yahweh- He is the God above all others. We first see this description when we meet Melchizedek and it describes him as the priest of the Most High God.
