Names for God (Adonai)

This Hebrew word means Lord or Master and it is used often times in place of the name Yahweh. This was done in fear of breaking the command not to take the Lord’s name in vain. Whenever we see the word “LORD” or in lower capital letters in our English Bibles, this is the word used. It is used heavily in Isaiah, Ezekiel and Daniel ch.9. This is the plural form of the word “adon” which usually refers to human lords. This word expresses the sovereignty of God over our lives.
